HDC BarZ GPS Ranger - Multi-Media, Interactive Interpretation

Self Guided Interpretation just got Hi-Tec!

HDC are pleased to present our interactive multi-media GPS Ranger guided tour solution

Gone are the days when you needed to hand out those nasty audio tour guide wands. Although popular with a number of agencies we never really liked them. They were expensive, inflexible, visitors walked off with them, they ran out of battery every 20-minutes and were difficult to update with new programs – but most of all we didn’t like them, because visitors didn’t like them. Research we have conducted over the years has proven that only very low percentage of visitors actually listened to a complete program – even if the presentation was good – which, most weren’t!

Remember that visitors only remember 10% of what they hear. However they remember 30% of what they read, 50% of what they see and 90% of what they do.

At last we can offer a solution that ticks all those boxes.

Introducing the interactive GPS Ranger guided tour

HDC have teamed up with partners BarZ Adventures in the USA to present the GPS Ranger. The GPS Ranger integrates proprietary hardware, patented software, and customised multimedia content to create video tour guide systems that is tailor made for your heritage site or destination. Your visitors will enjoy a rich, fun and educational touring experience that is delivered through full colour video, compelling audio, musical soundtrack, still images, historical photography, animation and interactive content that communicate the stories that makes your site unique.

What is the GPS Ranger?

The GPS Ranger is a rugged lightweight, handheld, water-resistant computer with a sunlight viewable touch-screen. The BarZ patented software utilises GPS to deliver real time, location specific presentations to your visitors, indoors or out.

Multimedia, location-aware content helps you to interpret your venue using state-of-the-art GPS. GPS coordinates correspond to Points of Interest within your location such as exhibits, landmarks, shops, and so on. As a visitors approach each location, relevant content automatically triggers on their GPS Ranger handheld device. Using the integrated GPS mapping system, visitors are encouraged to explore your venue at their own pace and learn more about what makes your location unique.

Unlike "first generation" audio tours, our GPS Ranger offers real-time video tours and interactive presentations that provide an entertaining, dynamic multimedia tourist experience that resonates with the computer generation and is fun for the entire family.

The beauty of this system is its flexibility. We can provide tours to suit a variety of different audiences; Within the same destination we can provide a selection of tours; one aimed at children, a basic adult tour, a detailed tour for “anoraks”, one using sign-language for the deaf and another presented in French…or German…or Spanish…or Japanese…
