Common problems you won’t get with an HDC Fossil or HDC Ecographic HPL panels!
Fibreglass Interpretation Panel Resin Failure This is a common problem. Thermosetting plastics used in the fabrication of fiberglass interpretation panels tends to be cheap styrene based resins which is very unstable in UV light and break down quickly leading to total resin failure.
Fibreglass Interpretation Panel Fading This panel from one if the UK's leading fiberglass panel manufacturers was just 4 months old! Again, due to the unstable nature of fiberglass panels in sunlight fading can occur quickly.
Acrylic Laminate Interpretation Panel Water Penetration Water penetration of surface layer leading to bubbling permanent damage. Notice too the colour fading. This panel was just 3 months old!
Acrylic Laminate Interpretation Panel Impact Damage Acrylic is a hard material, however is also very brittle. Acrylic laminate interpretation panels are easily damaged by localised impacts which leads to water penetration and panel failure.
Acrylic Laminate Interpretation Panel Delamination Some types of acrylic laminate interpretation panel utalise a thin top layer to protect and seal the grapgic layer, however this top layer is easliy sun damaged by UV rays which leads to bubbling and layer seperation leading to total panel failure.
Gel Coat Type Fibreglass Interpretation Panel Impact Damage Gel coat type fibreglass interpretation panels are made by silk screen printing an image directly on to a gelcoat surface. The problem is that in GRP production the brittle, non-structural gel coat layer is only there to protect the structural fibreglass layers from UV damage. Damage to the brittle gelcoat can lead to cracking, crazing, moisture penetration and frost-shattering and eventual delamination.
Vitreous Enamel Interpretation Panels Impact Damage Vitreous enamel signs (also known as porcelain enamel) are made by fusing a graphic transfer image and powdered glass on to a steel sheet by firing in an oven at 850 °C (1,560 °F). The powdered glass melts and then hardens to a smooth, durable coating. Vitreous enamel signs are great option in situations where they can be protected as they are easily damaged through impact which leads to rusting which results in further cracking, crazing and eventual panel failure. HDC Fossil Panels doesn’t have this problem it isn’t metal!!
Fibreglass Interpretation Panel Contamination The surface layer structure of many fiberglass panels is inherently unstable and deteriorates quickly which allows the build-up of pollutants, grime, bird guano, tree sap, lichens, moss and so on over time dulling the image and reducing the life span of the panel.
