Heritage Interpretation Project for Historic Swaffham

HDC commissioned to plan, research, write, illustrate, design, fabricate and install a series of heritage interpretation panel installations in Swaffham's historic town centre heritage and town museum.

Swaffham is a market town in Norfolk located 12 miles from King's Lynn and 31 miles from the City of Norwich. The town derives its name from the Old English "Sw?fa ham" meaning the "the homestead of the Swabians".

By the 14th and 15th centuries Swaffham had a developed as a centre sheep and wool industry and became prosperous resulting in the development of large market place. The market cross here was built by George Walpole, 3rd Earl of Orford and presented to the town in 1783. On the top is the statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest.
