There are a number of popular definitions describing heritage interpretation process, however we feel that the best definition is the one developed by Interpretation Canada
in the 1970s.
This definition has been picked-up over the past 40 years by many organisations, and is still the one most often taught in colleges and university around the world.
This definition is:
"Heritage interpretation is a communication process, designed to reveal meanings and relationships of our cultural and natural heritage, through involvement with objects, artefacts, landscapes and sites."
